The trend for vintage fairs has grown into a big movement over the last few years and this means that there are some people doing really bloody good ones!  Britain Does Vintage organise both vintage fairs and vintage wedding fairs and they’re coming to the toon yay!

With 40 stalls selling all manner of vintage wares, live music a beauty bar and gent’s corner there’s something for every vintage lover.  When you’ve shopped enough take a load off with a nice cuppa in the vintage tearoom or get your mug shots done in the photobooth.

Hopefully you’ll see Ruby’s Tea Party at a Newcastle Does Vintage Fair soon.

Confex Thank you – Ruby

I was lucky enough to attend a couple of weddings this summer as a guest and they incorporated some gorgeous vintage touches which you might take some inspiration from.

One bride used her own collection of vintage teapots as centrepieces displayed in birdcages lit with fairy lights. She then filled a few tea cups with flowers a guest hand-made rosettes for each guest which became the place cards – beautiful.

A few carefully placed vintage linens lifted the plain white table cloths and gave a focal point to the top table and the cake table.

Clusters of small vases filled with flowers dotted on windowsills and furniture gives a great vintage feel to the venue.

How about a vintage style suitcase lined with floral fabric and used as a table plan?

The happy couple used wedding photos from their parents, grandparents and other relatives photos along with the place name of where they married to name their tables, it was great fun working out who was in the photos!

If you want to recreate any of these looks I can supply the tea cups and tea pots filled with flowers, birdcages and vases. I’m already on the lookout for a great vintage suitcase to transform into a table plan so watch this space!

I was invited to exhibit at the Brinkburn Priory open day yesterday which is a fantastic wedding and event venue in a beautiful Northumberland setting.  We went all out and instead of just a static display, visitors were treated to a cream tea on the lawn.  It was a great way of beginning the conversation with brides and grooms about hiring vintage china to serve afternoon tea at the wedding.

It was lovely to see the familiar faces House of Cakes and Little Bundles  and also to meet the people behind new stationery company Ink Wedding Stationery.

My friends and I had decided to throw a surprise Mad Hatters Tea Party for a friends 21^st birthday. We’d spent hours fumbling around charity shops trying to find vintage tea pots and cake stands. Luckily, we stumbled across ‘Ruby’s’.  We hired; teapots, teacups, cake stands and tea cup candles. Everything was delivered to our door and collected from our door. So convenient!

We had all dressed up in Alice in Wonderland themed costumes. The flat had been decorated with playing cards and bunting and the table had been laid beautifully with lots of party nibbles.  However, the table would not have looked so perfect if it hadn’t have been for Ruby’s. Ruby’s crockery gave it that true tea party feel. The cakes looked even more edible served on one of Ruby’s gorgeous cake stands. I particularly loved the teacup candles. They looked so pretty just sat on the windowsill and they smelt amazing. Just to be different we served pink fizz out of our tea pots. Who says a tea party has to be all about tea? It was such a fun evening and Ruby’s definitely made our tea party ‘vintage pretty’! 

Chloe and Patrick had an intimate wedding day with close family and friends in a local pub.  Chloe wanted a ‘shabby chic’ feel to her tables and called me at the last minute to help with the styling.  She had been collecting some bits and pieces to decorate the tables herself but just didn’t have enough to give the feel that she wanted.

She wanted to keep to a pastel colour pallette and use pearls and lace.  I dressed the tables with tea cup and sherry glass candles that gave off a subtle vanilla scent on the adults tables, the children’s tables got glass bon bon dishes filled woth toffees and jelly beans.  Rose bowls and bud vases were filled with roses and carnations by Flowers by Pam Alexander who uses pearls and bows to tie everything onto the theme.

Doileys gave an instant ‘old fashioned’ feel to the tables and carried the theme through to the cake table which displayed a gorgeously elegant cutting cake and cupcakes made by Heaven Sent Cupcakes.
